Simply put, soft wax (also known as 'strip wax') is applied to the skin with a stick, and is removed by placing a fabric strip over it and pulling it off. Hard wax is also applied with a stick, but it hardens on its own and is pulled directly off the skin. Soft wax removes the top layer of the skin along with the hair, so it is very normal to break out after. It can yield great results, but because of different sensitivity levels, I choose to only work with hard wax. Hard wax wraps around the hair, and removes only dead skin cells along with the hair. Since the top layer of the skin is not being removed, an area can be gone over more than once; whereas with soft wax, you get only get 1 shot 😊 The hard wax that I use is very high quality from a local wax company.
No matter which waxing service you choose, the best way to prepare for a wax appointment is to shower the day before or day of the appointment (at least 2 hours before) and exfoliate the area you are getting waxed. By doing this, you are freeing any small hairs or fuzz trapped under dead skin cells, and essentially making your wax appointment quicker and easier for both of us 🙌🏼
The hair should be AT LEAST the length of a (long) grain of rice, and it needs to have been a minimum of 3 weeks without shaving, tweezing or performing any hair removal in the area. 🙏🏼 DO NOT trim before your visit; I will trim any area if the hair is too long. If you do try to trim and accidentally trim too short, you will have to wait until the hair is the appropriate length to come back.
No 🙅♀️ Once you start waxing, it is a long-term commitment, and not something to do once in a while. If you know you cannot allow your hair to grow in to get waxed every 3-4 weeks, waxing may not be for you. Shaving after waxing can cause very uncomfortable and unattractive ingrown hairs, so it is best to stick with one or the other. Trimming is only allowed for those who get bikini waxing services and leave some hair. Here is 1 simple rule: Never trim any hair that you want waxed
Not all hair re-growth cycles were created equal⚖and nobody is the same. So with that being said, majority of my clients are on a 4 week schedule. Some of us have thicker or darker or faster growing hair, so some clients come at 3 weeks, and some lucky ones with finer hair and slower cycles can come every 5 weeks. 4 weeks seems to be the sweet spot and a perfect place to start, but you and I will get to know your cycles and decide from there if you need to come sooner, or less often.
Yes! I am a woman too, no need to be embarrassed🤗 You can definitely keep your appointment, just wear a tampon. Also, you may be more sensitive around that time because of increased blood flow, so an ibuprofen before your appointment could be helpful 😉
I was trained by a great company where I was able to develop my own speed waxing techniques. Because of this, your wax appointments with me will not just be efficient, but speedy as well. Brazilians are typically 15-20 min. Eyebrow wax is about 10 minutes. Larger services average about 20-30 min. So although I always finish ahead of time, I always book a minimum of 30 min for waxing services just in case.
After you have been waxed, it is recommended that you avoid steam rooms, saunas, spas, pools, hot baths, beaches, the gym, tanning beds, spray tans, sex (if you had a bikini wax), deodorant (if you had an under arm wax), and any lotions, creams or moisturizers for at least 24 hours. Your skin needs the time to recover, and you do not want to clog your freshly opened pores, especially while they are so susceptible to bacteria. Perspiration also will irritate your skin, and can cause itchiness and bumps.
If you can plan a couple months out, I recommend you start waxing way before the event. When you first start waxing, it takes a couple visits to get all of the hair on the same cycle, and it may also take some time for you (and your skin!) to get used to the process. Remember, we wax about every 4 weeks, so plan ahead of your event in 4 week increments (4, 8 or 12+ weeks before).
If you have already been waxing regularly, then YES! You may be a bit more sensitive, and skin may be more tender, but there is no harm inflicted on you or baby. If you are planning to get pregnant and have never been waxed before, start waxing before you get pregnant so that you are used to it and it is easier to wax throughout your pregnancy. If you are pregnant already and you have never waxed before, I may not recommend you start during the pregnancy, depending on how far along you are. It may hurt a lot more, and the pain can cause stress to your body, which is not harmful-but not helpful to you or baby.
Yes! When we shave, we cut the hair in the middle of the thickest part right at the skin line, so when it grows back, it grows out fast and appears thicker and darker. Waxing pulls the hair out by the root, so not only does it stay gone for a couple weeks, but the hair starts growing back at a finer texture. This can also help lighten up areas of the skin that have gotten darker from shaving. Another added bonus: as long as you are coming for your visits on time and consistently, the waxing hurts less each time.
